Marta Salas-Porras
Interior Design and Textiles
Marta Salas-Porras, a San Francisco artist and designer, contributed significantly to the interior design of the hotel. From selecting textiles for the furniture to commissioning the interior artwork in the hotel, Marta is curious about the way things are made, whether it be the type of weaving used in creating eco fabric, the patina of steel or the age-old process of felting. Her curiosity is a product of her artistry, but it also guides her far-reaching influences. Marta directed photographers to take aerial shots of the neighboring vineyards and the many woods used throughout the property. She oversaw the artful portraiture of olive trees in the guest rooms and worked with artisans to create one-of-a-kind pieces for Bardessono. She is often engaged in a collaboration of one kind or another and the experience of making stand-alone creations merges with her strong sense of responsibility for working with the most ecological materials. Marta’s designs are simple and modern, soothing and comfortable. Her experience while designing for the hotel -- her inspiration really -- came from embracing the nature of the hotel’s location and the sustained beauty of basic Bardessono materials such as stone and wood. Marta joined the design team for the Bardessono late in the construction of the hotel. As a result she needed to find a way to use her artistry to complement and enhance the interior design choices that had already been made. She was successful in creating a unified vision for the interiors.
